Art
Mrs. Caroline Smith
Academic Excellence
All CMS students participate in a visual arts class. The middle school
art program focuses on individual, creative expression, work ethic, and
cultural diversity through a multitude of studio-based activities. Exemplary
student work is showcased in the annual K-12 art show.
Physical Education
Ms. Elizabeth Grunch
Academic Excellence
Physical Education performs a unique function in the curriculum by providing
a safe environment where students learn basic concepts about movement and
sports. The ultimate goal of the physical education program is to prepare
and motivate all students to engage in a lifetime of physical activities and
well being. In the middle school, students broaden their repertoire of physical
skills, increase their understanding of health-related fitness, and effectively
apply social skills developed through sports and activities.
Music
Mrs. Jayne Bennett
Academic Excellence
The middle school 8th grade band successfully participated in the MCBOA
District II Band Festival. The Christmas Choir performed at the opening of
the new Art Van furniture store in December. The middle school choir performed
at the high school concert singing “The Circle of Life” with the Percussion
Works Project from the Hohner Institute of Percussion. 8th grade band students
march in the Memorial Day Parade along with the high school marching band.
7th grade students have been working for a top performance level, and performed
some really great numbers at their spring concert in May. The CMS Jazz Band
played all year and “jazzed” up the spring concert with some new jazz charts.
The middle school performing arts presented “100 Years of Broadway” as their
musical production this year.
